A potato? Now I have heard a lot of teenage girls refer to themselves as a lot of crazy things, but never a potato. I laughed my loud, cackling laugh a few different times when Carlie accused her Mama of making her look like a spud. Mom was just trying to be helpful while her beautiful daughter was having her senior pictures taken. We chose to shoot this particular session out on the family’s land in Mount Pleasant, TX.
Mothers always find it emotional when their child is finally grown up and having their senior photographs taken. It has sunk in that the days of their child being at home is numbered and soon will be leaving the nest. (Well it is the hope, some stay for another decade, which is not always as welcome!) As a result, they are more than willing to help out in any way possible. Helping includes but not limited to, smoothing out hair, swatting mosquitoes and helping the ‘tog with holding a light or a reflector at times.
Because Carlie was concerned about looking like a potato, to ease her mind, I showed her the back of my camera. I needed her to fully understand that she did NOT look like a potato. She was amazed and excited. She tried to give me all the credit but I assured her that she did it all on her own. I loved how confident she became once I showed her an image. A sort of transformation occurred when she realized she was rocking her shoot and that she was in fact a beautiful person. THIS is why I love senior portrait photography and photographing girls and women. This is what lights up my soul.
Can we all take a moment to appreciate that red blouse and how ahhhh-mazing she looks in it? WOW!
Carlie is a cheerleader at Chapel Hill High School and apparently can do an insane amount of back flips. This is what she claims. I fully intend on having her show me at her next session. Carlie is my Senior Ambassador, and we have sessions planned for each of the seasons. I’m so stinkin’ excited and I have a bunch of ideas I’m so jazzed to try out.
It feels DANG good when someone acknowledges what I’ve worked so hard to achieve. I work every day to improve my craft. I know my journey of learning will never be complete, but I see how far I’ve come and it’s really exciting! You can imagine my excitement when mom kept telling me that I was legit. Ha! 🙂 I love hip Moms!
Here are a few of Carlie’s favorite images from this first senior portrait session, looking very much, NOT like a potato. What do y’all think?

I’m located in Mount Pleasant, but happy to travel around East Texas for senior pictures as well as weddings and on location for boudoir sessions. I love meeting new people, making connections and getting to visit all the various small towns and exploring their charms.
